5 Claude Lane Art Gallery
5 Claude Lane is a contemporary gallery located in downtown San Francisco. Focusing on local emerging artists, driving community dialogue, and expansion of artistic impact in the public realm. To create substantial architecture, a sense of immediacy in time and place is generated by the relationship between artwork and the space it inhabits. Less detail and decor allow for more emphasis on the basic components of space. The gallery is a large one-room exhibition space for art. The floor is a remnant soft wood unifying the simple vernacular of riveted steel beams, white projecting surfaces, and an aluminum storefront. A floating ceiling, with repeating lighting troughs, activates a new horizon within the earlier industrial vocabulary. A large full-height pocket door separates the voyeuristic display vitrine from the more rigorous interior container.
